MIHS Counselors – Resource & Referral Place (R&R)
The Resource and Referral (R&R) Place at MIHS offers students a safe, confidential place to gather informally on a drop-in basis and to seek support and guidance around the many issues and concerns facing adolescents today. A full-time Mercer Island Youth and Family Services (MIYFS) Counselor is on site to provide information, crisis intervention, short-term counseling, group support, and referral to other services. A full-time Alcohol and Drug Intervention Specialist is available to all MIHS students to provide education, support, intervention, and assessment and referral to other sober support services. Staff members also offer consultation with parents and school staff if needed.

You’re not alone. There is someone that’s willing to listen to you without judgment. Teen Link is a program of Crisis Connections that serves youth in Washington state. Teen volunteers are trained to listen to your concerns and talk with you about whatever’s on your mind – bullying, drug and alcohol concerns, relationships, stress, depression, or any other issues you’re facing. No issue is too big or too small! Calls and chats are confidential. Answered by teens 6pm – 10pm.

“TAKE five” is a free, anonymous, online tool available to high school students. The tool is designed to provide a personal, private, self check-in for youth about their emotional state and coping strategies. The tool gives individualized feedback to students and also provides factual information about what other high school students are experiencing to give students perspective.
